Social Research in Conflict-affected Areas (570X8)
Level 7 (Masters)
Summer teaching
In this workshop, you’ll explore the methodological issues that social scientists face when conducting research in zones of conflict.
You’ll draw on ‘best practice’ developed by NGOs, using case studies to recognise how researchers respond to these problems. You’ll develop a clear understanding of the following issues:
- ethical dilemmas
- security of researchers and respondents
- coping with stress
- dilemmas of maintaining objectivity.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We鈥檙e planning to run these modules in the academic year 2025/26. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.
We鈥檒l make sure to let you know of any material changes to modules at the earliest opportunity.
