Multi-sited and Mobile Ethnography (569X8)

Level 7 (Masters)

Summer teaching

In this workshop, you’ll examine the rise of multi-sited and mobile ethnography.

You’ll explore:

  • the tensions between ‘the local’ and ‘the global’
  • when and where ‘place’ and ‘field’ are not just locations, but representations of broader connections
  • Marcus’ original 1995 proposition and ‘reform’ anthropology
  • critique and practice of multi-site ethnography.
  • issues in theory as well as practice.

You’ll complete the workshop by conducting your own small multi-sited ethnographic project.
