On this module, you’ll gain a thorough understanding of modern Irish politics.
You’ll investigate academic debates on the changing politics of gender, class and religion. You’ll also explore:
- the key actors and institutions of the Irish political system
- the transformation of the Irish political economy
- Ireland’s changing relations with the EU and UK.
Although focusing on the Republic of Ireland, you’ll also examine the history and legacy of the Northern Ireland conflict.
Module learning outcomes
- Develop an understanding of the key institutions, actors, and issues in contemporary Irish Politics.
- Locate and evaluate academic literature related to a particular topic in Irish politics.
- Identify and research a key issue or question related to Irish politics.
- Experience of conceiving and producing a substantial work of analysis and argument, presented in accordance with professional scholarly standards.
