Quantum Chemistry (F10011)
15 credits, Level 7 (Masters)
Spring teaching
On this module you’ll explore the various theorems, methods and techniques which form the basis of theoretical and computation quantum chemistry.
You’ll start with the foundations and theorems of quantum mechanics, and then move on to operators and matrices in quantum chemistry.
You’ll be introduced to techniques of approximation, including the variational method and perturbation theory.
You’ll also explore the solution of the electronic Schrödinger equation under different approximations. This will provide a comprehensive, critical understanding of computational quantum chemistry methods applicable to chemical research.
We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We鈥檙e planning to run these modules in the academic year 2026/27. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.
We鈥檒l make sure to let you know of any material changes to modules at the earliest opportunity.
