Applied Skills in Biology (FND07)

15 credits, Level 3 (sub-degree)

Autumn teaching

The module brings together study skills and laboratory skills. Topics covered will include the following:

  • Academic writing
  • Report skills
  • Referencing
  • Paraphrasing
  • Analysis
  • Statistics

You will engage in practicals and develop competencies within a range of techniques that will link to the topics covered within the Introduction to Biology module.

The assessment will include a pass/fail essay, which aims to provide you with an opportunity to test your academic skills, and an e-portfolio which is 100% of the formal assessment, allowing you to demonstrate your skills development by compiling your work using current technology such as video clips and blogs.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We鈥檙e planning to run these modules in the academic year 2026/27. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.
