Climate justice approaches the causes and impacts of climate change in terms of social and historical inequities. This involves understanding how climate change intersects with existing racial, gendered and other inequalities, disproportionately impacting the poor and those least responsible for causing the problem.

On this module you’ll be introduced to the concept of climate justice, exploring the colonial roots of the climate and ecological crises and how they influence solutions proposed today.

You’ll explore and analyse carbon budgets, links between fossil fuels and economic power and calls for just recoveries and reparations. You’ll also design campaigns that advocate alternatives to climate injustice.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2026/27. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.
