Spring teaching

On this module, you’ll be introduced to literature and debates in urban anthropology and the anthropology of the city.

You’ll explore historical processes of urbanisation, focusing on the spatial, cultural, political and social characteristics of the modern cities. You’ll also look at the experiences of everyday urban life in cities across the world.

You’ll undertake a comparative analysis of the diversity of urban forms and experiences, based on specific case studies. You’ll use this to engage with theories that suggest there are universal characteristics to modern urban societies and cultures.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2026/27. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.

We’ll make sure to let you know of any material changes to modules at the earliest opportunity.
