Education and Inequality (L3115B)

Spring teaching

On this module, you’ll explore a range of sociological perspectives on education, training and schooling, with a primary focus on the UK. You’ll study formal and informal, private and public and compulsory and non-compulsory eduation. You’ll explore the history and philosophy of education alongside sociological research.

You’ll cover:

• sociological debates and normative and critical theoretical perspectives
• how experiences of education are shaped by factors such as social class, race, ethnicity, gender and migration history.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2026/27. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.
