Autumn teaching

On this module, you’ll explore the latest trends in sociological thought, engaging with C. W. Mills’ concept of the Sociological Imagination. The topics reflect key themes that you may recognise from previous studies, but they’ll draw on more recent research.

This module aims to make your first engagement with degree-level sociology an exciting one, showcasing how sociology can offer new ways of understanding the social world. You’ll examine how sociologists address a range of contemporary issues, such as:

• youth, adulthood and generations
• friendship and intimacy
• home
• life online
• human rights and racism
• post-colonialism and decoloniality
• the new power elite.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2026/27. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.

We’ll make sure to let you know of any material changes to modules at the earliest opportunity.
