Global Perspectives on Terrorism and Counter Terrorism B (M6028)

Spring teaching

On this module, you’ll explore the evolving nature of terrorism and the challenges of countering it in a global context. You’ll critically engage with key debates in academic, policy, legal, and practitioner circles on terrorism and counter-terrorism strategies.

Key topics include:

• the roles and responsibilities of governments, police, intelligence services and the media in counter-terrorism
• legislative responses to terrorism and their effectiveness.

You’ll also examine empirically informed case studies and research methodologies to understand the impact of research on policy and legal reform. Examples of these include:

• supporting and protecting victims of terrorism
• examining links between organised crime and terrorism
• legal responses to far-right terrorism.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2026/27. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.
