The Criminal Process (M5053)

Spring teaching
You’ll examine practical and normative aspects of the criminal process and criminal procedures. There is a specific emphasis on institutions and actors within the criminal justice system, for example:
- the police
- Crown Prosecution Service (CPS)
- the Magistrates’ Court
- the Crown Court
- legal aid
- jury trial
- the Court of Appeal
- the Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC).
The module offers a socio-legal approach to explore how the criminal process operates in practice.
We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We鈥檙e planning to run these modules in the academic year 2026/27. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.
