On this module, you’ll explore the Internet-of-Things (IoT), which is the network of physical objects or ‘things’ embedded with electronics, software, sensors and connectivity. These ‘things’ exchange data with manufacturers, operators or other connected devices to enhance their value and functionality.

You’ll cover IoT concepts, building blocks, applications and ecosystems. Through practical exercises, you’ll gain hands-on experience designing and building an IoT system by integrating sensor devices with the cloud, enabling remote monitoring and control from internet-connected devices like PCs or smartphones.

You’ll cover topics including:

  • introduction to IoT
  • IoT architecture and components
  • IoT connectivity protocols
  • cloud platforms and management for IoT
  • emerging software-defined networks and virtualisation for IoT
  • IoT vertical applications (vehicle, industry and eHealth).

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We鈥檙e planning to run these modules in the academic year 2026/27. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.
