Neurons, Brains, Behaviour and Minds (G6086)

Autumn teaching

Neuroscience studies the structure and function of nervous systems, and how they can be related to observable behaviour.

This module will cover the fundamentals of:

how neurons function, communicate, and are arranged
how the nervous system is organised
how different brain regions and functions relate to behaviour
the methods through which modern neuroscience and cognitive science approach the problem of mapping between neural function and behaviour, and the degree to which this has been successful in cases of disorder/disease
how brain function relates to mind.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2026/27. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.

We’ll make sure to let you know of any material changes to modules at the earliest opportunity.
