Microeconomics 2 (L1031)

15 credits, Level 5

Autumn teaching

On this module, you'll build on the economic principles learned in your first year. You'll study alternative market structures, such as oligopoly and monopolistic competition, and compare them with perfect competition and monopoly.

You'll also explore decision-making under uncertainty and across multiple time periods, moving beyond some of the restrictive assumptions made in the first year module.

The knowledge gained will be applied to topics such as:

  • investment in human capital (e.g. education)
  • saving and investment decisions
  • insurance
  • criminal deterrence.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We鈥檙e planning to run these modules in the academic year 2026/27. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.

We鈥檒l make sure to let you know of any material changes to modules at the earliest opportunity.
