Quotes
See the different ways to use quote components on our site, including with and without image.
Using quote components
Quote components are usually used to quote current or former students and staff, but can also include parents, external partners and collaborators. They can be effective at telling someone’s story and promoting a course, event or the Sussex experience in general.
All quotes should be no more than 140 characters. This includes spaces and quote marks.
Quotes should always be correctly attributed, ideally with a full name and course/role/job title. Some variants can include links and calls to action (see examples below).
Always make sure we have permission to use the quote (and image if applicable) before adding to a webpage.
See the full list of quote variants below:
Quote without image
The text link is optional for this component, depending on if there is any related content you need to link to such as a full student story.
I’d love to work in learning after my degree. I’ve always loved teaching and explaining to others. Towner Eastbourne has shown me that you don’t have to work in a school to do that. ” Elle Batehup

Quotes with image
Images should be cropped to 230px by 230px.
Standard quote with image
Use this component when you want to showcase a quote with an image, but you also don’t necessarily want your audience to leave the page. The text link is therefore optional (depending on if there is any related content you need to link to such as a full student story).
Unlike the callout variant below, this version uses large quote text with no heading above it, and comes in one colour.

Callout quote with image
The callout quote is similar to the standard quote with image, but can be more visually appealing with a range of colour options (much like a general callout). It also uses a heading (e.g. Abishek’s story) before the quote text.

Promo quote with image
The promo quote with image varies from the standard and callout quote with image because the call to action button is mandatory. Use this version when you want to actively encourage the audience to click away from the page they’re on to continue their journey.
The promo quote allows for more colour variation depending on the theme of the quote (similar to general promos):
- green promos have been used for things relating to campus and the university's vision
- purple promos have been used for things that students might directly interact with (such as open day promos and student stories)
- winter/pale promos have been used for more formal information (such as living costs and fees related information)
It also uses a heading (e.g. Abishek’s story) before the quote text.
