Communication is power.

On this module, you’ll explore how political ideas are shared and how they shape what people can do in politics. You’ll explore how political action is an active and debated process in everyday life as well as politics.

You’ll analyse:

  • how political messages are communicated
  • how they’re repurposed and subverted
  • the influence of today’s transforming political and technological landscape.

You’ll analyse a wide range of primary sources, including speeches, news reports, TV shows and memes.

Module learning outcomes

  • Demonstrate critical engagement with key theories of political communication
  • Apply political communication theories to an analysis of primary sources
  • Critically reflect on the relationship between the form of political messaging and its content
