To take this module you'll need to already be able to communicate with some independence in the target language at level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference [CEFR].

Building on existing levels of proficiency, on this module you'll:

  • understand and communicate effectively the main ideas and detail within an extended project in the target language
  • be independent and be able to source and select appropriate resources relevant to your independent study project
  • develop and consolidate a range of complex language structures, syntax, and specialised vocabulary to allow consistent accuracy, control, cohesion and fluidity in your use of the target language
  • analyse a subject linked to your chosen field of study.

Module learning outcomes

  • With reference to CEFR C1/+ level, the student can demonstrate understanding of long and complex factual and/or literary texts and/or specialised target language within their field, including differences in style
  • Use the target language effectively and flexibly for academic and/or professional purposes to structure and present an argument, description, or narrative logically and clearly
  • Demonstrate effective use and application of complex language structures of the target language including selection of appropriate specialised terms from a discipline-specific lexicon
  • Demonstrate in the target language knowledge and analysis of a special subject linked to a chosen field of study
