The economic and financial aspects of corporate governance relationships have long been a concern in the business community. The social, political and ethical aspects of these relationships are also a major public concern.

On this module, you’ll cover the key concepts, perspectives and mechanisms of:

  • corporate governance
  • corporate social responsibility.

 You’ll also learn how good corporate governance and social responsibility affect:

  •  firm performance
  •  investment decisions
  •  different stockholders.

Module learning outcomes

  • Understand and analyse the evolution of corporate governance and corporate social responsibility, applying key theories and models including agency and stakeholder perspectives.
  • Critically evaluate internal and external corporate governance mechanisms, including institutional investor oversight, in shaping managerial behaviour and firm value.
  • Discuss current research on corporate governance and evaluate arguments, assumptions, abstract concepts and data to make own judgement.
