This module will introduce you to the theoretical, conceptual and empirical tools that enable the analysis of distributional considerations in economics.

Topics include:

  • theories of inclusive growth
  • growth incidence
  • inequality measurement
  • economic mobility and equality of opportunity
  • inequality dynamics
  • taxation and inequality
  • minimum wages and inequality, among others.

Topics may change year-on-year to reflect contemporary developments in the field.

Module learning outcomes

  • Critically assess theories of economic growth.
  • Evaluate the distributional impact of policy recommendations and growth strategies.
  • Formulate suitable measures of inequality appropriate to particular circumstances.
  • Effectively communicate contemporary issues of economic inequality to specialist and non-specialist audiences
