On this module, you’ll be introduced to the economics of the environment and environmental policy.

You’ll discuss:

  • externalities
  • optimality
  • sustainability
  • cost-benefit analysis
  • their ethical foundations
  • methods for valuing environmental goods and services
  • policy instruments for pollution control
  • environment and development
  • environment and trade
  • environmental accounting for countries and corporations.

In your seminars, you’ll then apply the concepts learnt in lectures to environmental problems such as air pollution, climate change, acidification, and eutrophication.

Module learning outcomes

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the core principles of environmental economics and management.
  • Critically assess an environmental problem and propose solutions using an appropriate economic framework.
  • Deploy key techniques in the field of environmental economics.
