About the Event
In this guest lecture, Erin James, artist, archivist and facilitator shares their recent research, "Aliving the Archive - A decolonial, participatory & community approach to archiving" and puts forward an alternative framework outside of institutional understandings of archiving, what it can be used for, and who it is for.
Erin is joined by writer, curator, multidisciplinary artist and current PHD student Pacheanne Anderson who will talk about how their work embodies this alternative, decolonial and participatory form of archiving. Students who are interested in decolonial methodologies, alternative research or participatory media production may find this lecture interesting.
Erin's Bio
Erin James is a multi-disciplinary artist, activist, and facilitator working at the intersection of art and social change. Their framework for creating sees the use of art forms such as poetry and sound, curating and facilitation and archiving and photography as vessels for "artivism". Erin has performed poetry at festivals and venues such as FemFest, Brighton Festival, Brighton Dome and The Old Market, and had their poetry added to the curriculum at Sussex University. They are the founder of the socially engaged zine Tough Cookie Mag, and they were the 2023 Stuart Hall Research Fellow at Sussex University, and a recent Master's graduate.
Pacheanne's Bio
Pacheanne Anderson is a curator-writer, diversity consultant and art advisor who produces arts and cultural events with the goal of putting Queer, Trans*, Black & POC Artists in spaces where they’re more likely to meet collectors, journalists and other artists and curators. Anderson’s central focus is to dispel any restrictions and barriers to entry for artists who have previously been underrepresented in the art world through nurturing their practice and art world knowledge outside of institutional frameworks. He is currently undertaking a PhD in Creative & Critical Practice at the 亚洲情色.
