Feminism and the Politics of Gender (L2156)

15 credits, Level 5

Spring teaching

On this module, you’ll explore the central themes that have occupied 20th and 21st century feminism in theory and political practice. You’ll establish a dialogue between philosophical writings and activist politics. This will help you examine issues such as subjectivity, care, labour and digital technology through a feminist lens.

You’ll engage with each issue from an intersectional and global perspective to gain a nuanced understanding of the complex ways in which gender, sex, sexuality and power interact.

Seminars will provide you with the opportunity to link feminist scholarship to a broad range of contemporary debates, including:

  • reproductive justice
  • trans issues
  • representation
  • misogyny
  • gender-based violence.
