Module Outline
This module provides practical training in counselling, grounded in the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) guidelines. Students will explore confidentiality, safeguarding, and professional boundaries, applying ethical principles to case study scenarios and real-world challenges. Through role-play and simulated practice, they will develop key interpersonal skills, including empathy, active listening, and effective questioning techniques. The module also addresses strategies for supporting individuals facing behavioural and emotional challenges. Continuous feedback and reflective practice will enable students to refine their counselling techniques, ensuring they are well-prepared for ethical and professional interactions in diverse support settings

Module learning outcomes
Critically analyse and apply developed counselling skills and techniques, and interpersonal qualities such as empathy, demonstrating a systematic understanding of professional guidelines (e.g., BACP), ethical dilemmas, and safeguarding practices in simulated complex counselling scenarios.
Evaluate and apply established methods of analysis using case studies, role-play, and reflective practice to assess and respond to potential behavioural and emotional challenges, demonstrating professionally informed judgment in ethically ambiguous situations.
Synthesize and critically engage with contemporary research in counselling practice, demonstrating conceptual understanding of current debates, limitations of knowledge, and evolving methodologies, while communicating insights effectively to both specialist and non-specialist audiences.
