Module Outline
What does it mean to flourish and to live well? In this module, we explore key ideas and practices that envision human flourishing as a diverse, relational and multidimensional experience influenced by biological, psychological, social, cultural and environmental factors. We will examine how wellbeing varies across different groups, life stages and regional contexts globally. How do political, economic and community institutions support or constrain people’s opportunities to thrive in areas such as business, arts, education, healthcare and work. Drawing on Sussex University’s radical history of thinking across subjects, we will develop an understanding of what helps people live meaningful, connected and fulfilling lives—and what gets in the way including socio-economic inequalities and various forms of discrimination. By the end of the module, you will develop the knowledge and critical awareness needed to consider how flourishing can be realised in creative, inclusive, just and democratic ways.
