Module Outline
Migrant Ecologies explores the entanglements of migration, empire and environment through the lens of oceanic, littoral and liminal worlds. Building on seminal approaches in world environmental history, we will examine how maritime environments and communities have shaped and been shaped by the movements of flora, fauna, people and ideas—and the ecological exploitation, dislocation, resilience and repair that follows. Through historical case studies and contemporary cultural practices, the module invites us to engage with an emerging humanities of the displaced to interrogate the consequences of resource extraction, climate change, and the politics of planetary belonging.
