Module Outline

From agenda-changing documentaries, award-winning podcasts and blockbuster museum exhibitions, to hit movies, bestselling fiction, and cult video games, history is embedded in our popular culture. But whether enlightening and informative or exciting and inventive, how can we ensure that an authentic essence of the past is captured while also appealing to a public who want to be entertained? How can we shine a light on lesser-known stories from history, and how do we retell those that are more familiar? In this module, you’ll practice how to communicate and disseminate historical research to a variety of different audiences, in ways that bring the past to life in relevant, engaging and illuminating ways. Building on skills developed in year two modules Engaged Public History and Historical Consultancy, the module prepares students for possible careers in the cultural and creative sectors and beyond.
