Module Outline
This module bridges the gap between academic history and professional practice, preparing students for today’s dynamic employment landscape. You’ll learn how to apply historical knowledge and insights in real-world settings. You’ll tackle authentic heritage or policy challenges set by external organisations, working in a team to develop and pitch ideas and solutions. In doing so, you’ll build skills in problem-solving, collaboration, project management, and time-management. The module combines this hands-on consultancy experience with critical examination of the modern knowledge economy and the changing employment outlook for History graduates. You’ll explore how your History degree translates into transferable skills valued across diverse sectors. You’ll learn how to articulate your disciplinary expertise and demonstrate the commercial and social value of History to potential employers. The module will give you the skills, practical knowledge and confidence to embark on a placement year after Year 2, should you choose to do so, and to expand the opportunities available to you after graduation.
