Module details for 2025/26.

30 credits

FHEQ Level 7 (Masters)

Module Outline

This module brings together the fields of refugee studies and education, focusing on policy and practice in both formal and non-formal settings, and at all stages in the life cycle. It considers the concept of ‘refugee’ and its derivatives (asylum seekers, Internally Displaced People, forced migrants.) before critiquing how education is implicated in the incorporation or exclusion of refugees from national citizenry. It engages with international policies relating to refugees and education, as well as different methodological and theoretical perspectives that illuminate refugees’ diverse experiences in both the global north and south.
