The ÑÇÖÞÇéÉ« is delighted to welcome 13 international undergraduate students this summer as part of the International Junior Research Associate (IJRA) Scheme.

The students have joined Sussex from partner institutions across the world, including British University Vietnam; Mahidol University in Thailand; the University of Warsaw in Poland; Charles University in the Czech Republic; Zhejiang Gongshang University in China; the University of Chicago and Emory University in the United States; and Bennett University in India.

The IJRA Scheme offers a unique opportunity for ambitious undergraduates to spend eight weeks working on supervised research projects alongside Sussex academics. The programme is designed to give students a meaningful introduction to research, helping them develop practical skills, explore new ideas and experience what it’s like to be part of a research-focused university.

This year’s cohort is contributing to projects across a wide range of disciplines, including Computer Science, Chemistry, Robotics, Business, Biomedicine, Global Health, Engineering, Mathematics, History and Film Studies. Through these projects, students are gaining hands-on experience while working closely with experts in their fields.

Beyond their research, the group is excited to experience the Sussex summer during their time here. Living alongside students on the Undergraduate Summer School, they are taking part in a social programme of activities and trips, offering opportunities to connect with peers and experience life in the UK.

Programmes like the IJRA Scheme play an important role in building Sussex’s global partnerships and supporting the development of future researchers. The University looks forward to seeing all that this year’s cohort achieves during their time on campus.
